I watched the entire video clip just to make sure. And yes, it still gives me chills. Thank you for posting it. And I thank Karl Haden for using it as a training tool for our students. The Leadership weekend was a great idea.

Eliminating Denti-Cal is being penny wise & pound foolish. If a person's dental health is ignored, it can have a seriously debilitating affect on that person's overall health. When health problems get serious enough, uninsured people will use emergency rooms for their healthcare, overwhelming hospitals which can lead to more serious problems such as closures. Unfortunately, politicians often fail to take the big picture into account; so they wind up spending dollars to save pennies.

Glad to hear the meeting was constructive and glad you left before the flu got you.

Oral healthcare is connected to general health? What a concept!

What a pleasure it is to hear the goals of helping others. In this day and age, it has become less and less, and one can enrich their own lives by reaching out to help our globe. One may find a career that is lucrative, or brings fame, but at the end of the day, what joy is there? True happiness and career satisfaction is created from a lifestyle of giving service with intergrity and charity. These are two very important qualities that I see in the Digoni School of Dentistry. As a dental assistant, I work for Dr.'s Joe and Brian Harris,(and on Fridays, Dr. Scott!) and they do charity work every year, uniting the community with the act. Donating bleaching treatments, working with the Phoenix Suns for children's charities, and breaking records for amounts given is a standard that they produce yearly. It is this quality I see in them, and strongly associate it with where they received their education. Their family tree of dentistry seems to be rooted in the soil of UOP! I truly want to be a part in that.

At the same time our school was in the exciting process of creating our vision, mission and values statements, some of the members of the Managers/Directors Committee were putting together an idea that eventually became the Leadership Initiatives Subcommittee. Composed of 10 members of the Directors/Managers committee the group began meeting in January 2007 with these general goals: to create opportunities that would lead to cross-functional involvement within the dental school, improve the visibility of managers and directors and their roles at the school, and to advocate for and be a mentoring force for other managers and directors. See our Mission Statement below.

In the year and a half since its inception, the group has made some interesting accomplishments including:
•the inclusion of a manager or director on four school committees where previously there had been no staff representation, the Dental Faculty Council, the Curriculum Committee, the Admissions Committee (IDS) and the Student Financial Aid Committee
•the representation of a member of M/D committee to the Administrative Council
	•creation of a M/D Blackboard site
•currently mentoring the creation of a Staff Advisory Council

In these ways we take the school’s value of Leadership to heart... modeling, inspiring and mobilizing.

Leadership Initiatives Subcommittee Mission Statement

The Managers/Directors Leadership Subcommittee values integrity, innovation and collaboration while striving to raise awareness and visibility, both internally and externally, for Managers/Directors Committee members through involvement and representation in the dental school’s decision-making processes and by advocating for and mentoring Managers/Directors Committee members.

I like that you started the blog by talking about the school values. I feel as though it transitioned well into your thoughts on the Klinic project, impact of the budget cuts, and on how the Dugoni family is making a difference. I am currently applying and like what the school stands for. I hope to get the opportunity to become a part of this family. =)

Dean Ferrillo,

Thanks for the update. I would like to hear how or if the practice of dentistry differs in some of the placesyou visit, from the delivery perspective. Is it part of national health care packages ? Things like that would, I think , be a pleasure to read for those of us who don't travel as extensively as you do.

Thanks again,

Neil

On blogs, I've read far more complaints about baby boomers from Gen X and Gen Y than I've read about boomers complaining about younger generations.

I write a boomer consumer blog called The Survive and Thrive Boomer Guide at http://boomersurvive-thriveguide.typepad.com and a blog called the Boomer Consumer for the Seattle Post Intelligencer at http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/boomerconsumer/.
